California PT2-Coastal Awesomeness

This Thanksgiving I had a chance to fulfill a little adventure that I've wanted to take on for a while, to drive up the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to Crescent City then across Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, S.Dakota and finally back to Minneapolis. It was unbelievably cool and a must drive for any road trip enthusiast. Only down side was icy roads all the way thru Wyoming and gas cost you a fortune on the west coast, the average was $4.09!!
It's well worth it if you need an adventure.
Here's a few of the cool highlights of that journey.

Meeting a "Hero"

Meet Sandy Huffaker Jr. Who, in my humble opinion is one of the great photographers of our time as well as a personal hero. As I was learning this craft
(still doing that) I would often read his blog to gain insight, inspiration & perspective. Sandy, who is such a down to earth, personable & sweet guy invited me to San Diego for the day to talk shop, see beautiful SoCal and offer advice on my journey out west. I even got to play with his pet bunnies (My kids would be jealous).
Sandy and another of my favorite SoCal Shooters Robert Benson have just started a brilliant business for corporate events which I highly encourage business folks to look to for exceptional work.

Thanks for being a class act Sandy. See you again soon my friend

Dylan's almost a free bird

This is Dylan and she's just one of the few lucky kids who choose to get their senior shots from me. I don't shoot to many sessions like this (I'm a commercial guy), but I always enjoy the opportunity to work with smart, talented young people. Dylan is no exception. She's a top notch student, artist & person. We had an instant connection and had a blast running around Minneapolis. Great job D, now go set the world on fire:)

Mark Tremonti AKA Lucky Me:)

Had the opportunity a few weeks back to shoot a personal hero and true legend of metal, Mark Tremonti from Creed & Alter Bridge. My good friend & client Wally from Cornford Amplifiers called me up on a whim, asked if I was free in an hour or so and next thing I knew, I was in a trailer backstage shooting Mark, Wally and the rest of the band. They gave us all access to shoot so after the first three songs, we were invited to continue shooting from the stage wings. Awesome!!!! now I know how a 13 year old girl feels when Justin Beeber comes to town.......

Dream like todays your last day:)

California Part 1

I've been in California for 4 weeks now and it's been a whirlwind of a trip. Since arriving I've travelled from north to south and east to west finding all kinds of coolness. Along the way I've been shooting, visiting friends, meeting new people and learning about this freakin awesome state. I even had the opportunity to camp out at Area51 (Sorry, no abductions this time around). Here's a glimpse at some of the road side menageries

Going Coastal

Taking risks is important. It's the risks we take in life that define us as individuals both as a person and in business. So I packed up my car with what little I need to get started, a computer, camera, some clothes and a dream. I kissed my family good bye and promised that the next time we are together it will be on a beach in California. I will not let life pass me by, I'd rather take it for a ride:)
