Lighting the fire by burning rubber

Holy crap, 2011's here, and it's freezing up here in Minneapolis! Is there really any better time to write about finding your creative spark & setting your work on fire?
One of the best ways for me to re-energize after a season of shooting is to go on a long road trip & this year I was fortunate to get out for two westbound adventures. One was a solo journey thru the Dakotas, Nebraska, & Wyoming, the other with my good friend, comedian Nicholas Anthony to LA from MLPS. Both were kick ass, affording the opportunity to really see the western United States. A couple moments that really stand out from the first trip was Car Henge in Alliance Nebraska where magic hour is truly amazing and pulling up just outside the Devils Tower in Wyoming at 3:20am in the pitch black, setting up my camera to capture the image you see in the miles between portfolio. The lack of any real population creating light pollution out there makes for a rich almost surreal blanket of stars.

My trip with Nick out west was a great opportunity to shoot a subject who was changing his life for the better and living his dream. Nick allowed me to capture some amazing images both planned and unplanned while nursing my old Buick thru the mountains, deserts and Nebraska proving it's not just your grandpas car.

Times like these are what we live this life for. To find the moment, document the fleeting, make the simple look extraordinary & make a statement in one frame. Spark Lit.............xox
